Hadouken by Andy Ultra, is one of a series of six paintings made in connection with Super Ultra Cool. This painting is on display at Barlow and Fields in Leigh-on-Sea. For those unaware “Hadouken” is a move from the game Street Fighter, performed by either Ryu or Ken. The move allowed you to fire this energy at different speeds across the screen towards your opponent. Continuing with the gaming theme that appears in lots of Andy’s work, the Hadouken is an iconic part of the cultural zeitgeist of the 1990s. Ryu was always Andy’s go to street fighter character. This piece again features the gloved hand so familiar in lots of Andy’s work. The design was later adapted for our T-shirt designs.
The painting has been scanned at very high resolution to capture all the detail of the brush strokes, mistakes, and imperfections that adds to the fidelity of the artwork.
